I’ve had a LOT of people ask me if it’s possible to make prefitted diapers (converted prefolds) without a serger. I’ve always suggested just zig-zagging to finish the edges. That’s what I did for my personal stash, before I had a serger. It’s not the prettiest, but it works, and I’m generally too concerned with “time economy” (read: I’m too lazy!) to fuss around with extra steps if I can avoid them.
But for those of you who want something a little prettier, a little more “finished,” but don’t have a serger handy, a good friend of mine has you covered! She’s put together a very nice, detailed, step-by-step photo tutorial over on her blog, showing how to make awesome diapers like this one, from just a prefold and a T-shirt – with no serger needed, just a basic straight stitch! (You don’t have to use a t-shirt, by the way – any fabric will work fine.)

And while you’re there, check out her other posts. She has a TON of useful tutorials, and free templates for diapers and other sewing projects! :)
